Sweet fly Dave !!! Like how you framed it rather than isolating the fly !! Just another option and a great one !! Everything is working for me here and really like the overall feel !!!

... was tempted to suggest a little crop form the bottom but will affect the stems on the right which I like !! Big Congrats !!

OK, why do you have so many flies where you live, Dave ? :D;)

Sharp and detailed as the previous one. I think I prefer the last one though...probably because the fly on that one looks bigger :D

Desmond If you need flies ... got a solution and don't laugh :D

I was outside Fairchild Gardens with nothing to show for myself but had an idea ... waited for a dog and followed, sure enough nature called and the rest is history ... just make sure not to get down wind :)

    Good question Desmond. :)
These are just your common garden variety flies. It is quite amazing what does live in a flower bed though. I have a couple more.

It is a nice break from trying for that perfect bird photo. It is also interesting that a lot of the same techniques apply; eye contact, square to sensor, and the struggle for dof and ss. Clean bg's may be a little easier I think.

An interesting challenge and lots to learn.

    Thanks for comments everyone.

Hi Dave, great shot of the fly. Would of liked a bit more depth but I see you were fighting the speed. If this were mine I would crop from the left just past the first soft stem on the right...

    Thanks Dave.

I am not sure if the little stem exiting the frame on the right is the reason you suggest the crop or not, but it bothered me and I did look at cropping and did not prefer that option.

I had also reworked that little bulb so it did not leave the frame and decided to go with the original to see comments.

    Tks Again
