Adjust WB, add contrast, crop, NR, set white/black point, lighten some shadows area, and sharpen.

By the time I found a cormorant that was willing to pose for me it was around noon, so the sun was high up and create some shadow area around the bird. However it was cloudy was the light wasn't that harsh.

All comments and suggestions are welcome.

this would have been the perfect time to stop down a little and play with the flash. going in tight like this is the best thing to do when the light is bright. just need some extra help with the shadows. as is, i might just try lightening the eye a little. i actually think you did as well as you could in this situation!!

I like the pose and nice BG + details. light is a bit harsh and makes it difficult with a dark bird, I would try raising the shadows a bit. TFS

Love the bg and does make for a fine image. The flash suggestion was a good one !! Best way to help out with harsh light !!! Interesting to see what you can do in PS !! Always try to pull out all the stops in camera !!!

Hi - Like the pose and the BG - Agree with the above comments - especially the use of some flash - these guys are usually fairly tolerant of flash at least in my neck of the woods.
    Like the BG.
Would lighten the eye just at tad.
    keep em coming :)

Like the color - especially that of the background - and the composition. Sure would like to see some of the shadow areas opening up more.

Good for you to get so nice and close.

Bg colour is works really well as does the pose and easy to lighten the eye up a bit.

Nice and sharp and just needs a bit better lighting condition.

Lovely contrast between the subject and the background. Agree with Arash about raising the shadows. I had a play with Shadow/Highlight tool in CS3 and the noise levels are good so easy to correct.
