House finches are the only consistent visitors thus far, but I am working on attracting others.
I feel this image has a flat 2D look. I wonder if that's because of the flash or the very even background.

It doesn't look flat to me but I would prefer the background a little lighter and the hightights on the perch toned down a bit. There is something below the bill and at the back of the nape that needs cleaning.

    Otherwise I like it.

I like the view of the back with the over the shoulder look resulting in a good head angle. The angled perch and simple background are also to my liking. Your image appears sharp.

As to the two dimensional look, well I am certainly no expert but my guess is that it from the flash as in my opinion the bird has an over flashed look to it.

    Thanks for sharing.

very nice like the pose, BG and perch, subject a bit bright, lack of subtle shadows contributes to the flat look , I'd reduce the flash power a bit but as is and overall very nice TFS.

    Thanks for the excellent feedback.
I'm still pretty new to flash photography and am prone to over-flashing subjects.

Here's a frame taken a few seconds after, when light conditions were slightly different. I think this looks more natural (although I'm unsure of the bright part of the background). I also cropped it differently.
