    Default Black-headed Grosbeak

Captured in Madera Canyon in Arizona. Toned down the perch which was hot and cropped for composition. High ISO and SS due to shooting Hummers when this guy came in. No time to change settings as he didn't stay long.

    Joe:

Good looking fellow, nice head position, view of feet.
Like the chosen comp. to downplay the large, bright perch. Toning down perch good call as well.

A bit more DOF would have been nice.

The high ISO left you with some noise visible in the darker areas of the background.

    Cheers

    Randy

Comp works well Joe, and I like the pose with the bird looking into space. I agree some NR on the BG will work.

Nice pose and comp. I like how the perch anchors the left edge - I would only clone out the very thinest part at top of said perch as it awkwardly weaves out and in of the frame. I do find the contrast on it a bit strong on it too. NR to the BG would be good. I'm OK with the DOF as the whole face/body/feet are perfectly sharp, and I like how the OOF tail is nicely separated from the tree.

Nice species to get here, Joe. I second what Daniel said.
