    Default Orange-Variant Scarlet Tanager

Due to the orange and black plumage, I was confused and first thought this bird was an Oriole. It turned out to be a Scarlet Tanager that was orange instead of red ... an Orange-Variant Scarlet Tanager.

For me this is a little too square, but the colors of the bird are great. Looks also like a fair crop due to the loss of IQ in the BG, would that assumption be correct? Wish that the small branch was not intersecting the tail; also appears to have a little branch partly obscuring the bill. Still nice though. :) TFS

Quite busy with the various branches, with the two main culprits being the the one behind the tail and the one in front of the bill. Good pose by this Tanager. It looks about right colour-wise though, not sure that it is an orange variant? Perhaps the flank and back look a bit paler than usual, hence your confusion...

Great pose and the sharpness of the bird look good. The biggest problem is the oof branch on the bill of the bird. The oof branch on the tail is not as bad, but I would still like it better if it were not there at all.

    Hi Rodny,

Thanks for the nice comments. I knew the branches would be an issue but that was the best shot I could get for that brilliant colored bird.

    Thanks,
    Tom

    Hi Daniel,

The branches were most assuredly an issue but that was the best shot I could conjure up.

When I first saw the bird, I thought it was an Oriole due to the orange plumage. The only Scarlet Tanagers I've seen have been bright, stunning red Scarlet Tanagers. This was the first and only variation of the plumage color that I've seen. Do you feel the variation in color is due to an immature bird?

    Thanks,
    Tom

    Akos,

Most definitely the branches were issues and that was the most open shot I could get at the time.

Yes, you are right. It is a 100% crop.

    Thanks for your reply, :)
