Ooooh, not another elapid from Australia you say! :D
These guys are apparently common in my neck of the woods. I have not yet seen one, but they sure are gorgeous, well as gorgeous as a snake can be. Yes, venomous, but not dangerously so. A large specimen can inflict a bite that may cause swelling, lots of pain and numbness. People have compared it to a 'bad' bee sting. IAC, I have a the utter privilege to spend time in the field with a scientist friend who has an incredible knowledge of our local fauna and we can turn up some awesome creatures in our travels. Hope you enjoy this new found affinity that I am participating in: reptiles et al. :)
Thanks Robert. I was actually using flash as main light. Know what you mean about the sheen. Have done that with a couple other shots of different species. I don't find it all that severe here, but I can certainly see the benefit in spending a bit of time fixing it. I should make a softbox for my flash, but first I need to make a snake attack shield for my camera. Some species will not be too happy for me to be within 1/2 meter of their faces. :D
Thanks for your time.
Hi Akos Nice looking snake and these guys are generally not easy to shoot !! As presented would darken the light area over the head in bg .. and tech wise would have been interesting going the other way with limited dof for comparison, just focusing on the eye ... you got a keeper !!!
... let me know about the shield Akos, might be a good project :D
Very sharp image with focus on the eye, and glad you got that tongue as well! I love snakes, too, so keep them coming. Would love to see the brown snake, the taipan, and some sea snakes, too! That should keep you busy for some time!
