Default Pelican Head Throw in Mid Air

I am not sure how often do they do the head throw during flight. This was the first time I ever saw the pelican doing it in flight.

    Shot taken with D3s + 500mm + 1.4TC.

    Manual
    Exposure: 0.001 sec (1/2000)
    Aperture: f/6.3
    Focal Length: 700 mm
    ISO Speed: 640
    Exposure Bias: 0 EV
    Flash: No Flash

I've never seen this except when reaching for food. Good EXp control, just a bit tight in the frame, especially the bottom, it needs balance because of the very long head and the feet not showing. TFS.

Fabs, the original frame, if I go lower, would include the sand bar, which I found distracting.
I probably could stretch the canvas a bit to get more room on the bottom.
    Will try tonight.
    Thanks for the stopping by.

Great capture, Troy. I don't see pelicans often, but I have never seen this either. Great lighting and color. I would also like to see more room up front.

Hi Troy, Another candidate for not seeing this before. When I first saw the image I was surprised there were no legs attached. I like the image overall and agree on more room around.

First for me also ... on the ground is something different and impressive when they reverse the pouch !!!

Agree with Fabs on the tightness but understand about the bank, overall mood is great, really like it !!

Impressive Troy, I feel it needs a bit more room on the top. Interesting pose and a first time for me too.

Thank you all for your kind words and great suggestion.
Here is a repost. Added more room on top, left and bottom, gives it a flow feel.

Dave, yeah no legs, kind of scary actually.

Remarkable capture! Interesting lighting. A first for me, also.
    Like the room in re-post.
    Thanks for posting this.
