This was taken this morning in Rietvlei Nature Reserve near Pretoria South Africa. This is my first sighting of this beautiful bird.

Lovely portrait, Dumay. I have never been lucky enough to see one this close.

A great looking bird, sharp, perfect exposure, and really cool water. For my taste, the bird is too far forward in the frame--just a bit. I'd rather have the bird a bit farther back in the frame with a bit more room in front.... What to do? There are several AF Area Modes with the 7D that would likely have helped you to create a slightly better image out of the camera. (Adding canvas with water like this is a pain.)

My 7D Guide covers all of the preferred AF Area Modes and the plusses and minuses of each :)

Very nice low angle. The smooth water looks great, as does the detail and sharpenss of the bird.

Gorgeous portrait. Simply love the water! Aren't Grebes awesome.
Do you have some more room in the front?
    Good sharpness and detail

Probably twice as much room in front as is at present would have made this top notch. Not that it isn't as is presented anyway. Nice work to get so close to this species. Love the water BG and the droplets at the base of its neck. Well done. :)

Super sharp detail Dumay, and just love the light and colours. A little more space on the right will work. Was this from the new hide?
