Since this day was very overcast, I should have a my Beamer, but had to work the wetlands as best as possible. If I had it to do all over again, I would have pushed the ISO even more. Canon 1D MK IV on tripod, ISO 800, f/5.6, 1/100 sec, EF100-400mm f/4.5-4.6L IS USM, 400mm, Evaluative Metering, Auto Exposure, Auto WB, No Flash. Comments Welcome....

Not a clue Jackie. I just take the pictures, I let someone else ID them.

boat-tailed grackle male. very nicely done, richard! believe it or not, flash makes these birds look funky/unnatural. harder to process for me. i like them without it!

Hi Richard, Nice presentation! I like the birds position and the fact that it's almost sharp throughout at 5.6.
Good detail and a pretty backround. I might take out the white area under the birds tail...

Congrats, nice job on this. Love the color and detail in the bird. I think flash may have hurt this one as the branch is beginning to look a little bright. The exposure on the bird looks perfect to me.

Congrats my friend. This is truly a beautiful capture, everything; BG, HA, Perch, and details on your bird. I have never seen one. One of your best IMO.
    Big time congrats again.:o

Hi Richard Agree with Harold on the flash !! If you use it best just for a catchlight !! Can set to manual 1/16 power ! Love the pose and bg, might just increase density/contrast on the feathers (just a bit) These birds look their best in full sun ... don't overlook the females, they don't have the colors and look sort of brown but are good looking birds !!

Beautiful grackle Richard! I love these birds too. I think your ISO was fine and it is reasonable to shoot at the shutter you used, especially on a tripod. Really like the colors you captured!

Beautiful pose and perfect head angle. I think the body could use some black added to the neutrals in Selective Color. I was going to say just there, but actually I think the BG will benefit too. Just mask the face, which is perfect.
Hope toes you soon, I'm considering the invitation to the exhibit :)
