    Default House finch

My 2nd attempt at a set up.
With a new, relatively barren backyard, I've only managed to attract a few house finches thus far. Hopefully, in time, they'll bring their other friends along.

Almost full frame. Wish I had some more room. Should have gone for a perch with more color/interest for this simple bird

    Sidharth:

You are on your way! Setups can be great fun, and and really hone your craft.
Nice pose, well exposed. Perch OK, nice scale for bird, and has some detail.
From a comp. standpoint, I might add a sliver to the top, he seems tightest there compositionally, even though the tail is closer to the frame edge, easy with this background.

Look forward to your creations. Give them food, and in your area, water, and I would think they will come to you.

    Cheers

    Randy

I use the same lens combo and get results I am pretty satisfied with. I really like your bg. No problem with the perch for me. The tail area is a touch tight and agree re space on top..Nicely done.

Apart for a bit more room above and left (not much needed) I have no issues with this image. Very well done, well exposed and perfectly sharpened for web view.

Killer BKGR. A bit more on top, or, some off the bottom for a nice pano crop. You have the set-up basics down pat and a killer BKGR. Do you have Alan Murphy's Songbird Set-up Guide?

Agree about space needs. Otherwise looks very nice. Well done with your patience. I don't think I'd last more than 10 minutes. :D

Excellent image. Nice pose, sharp and contrasty. You nailed the DOF. I don't mind the crop at all....the worst think you could do IMO is put the bird dead centre in the frame.

Thank you all for the great feedback.
I tried the suggested crops, and they did improve the image substantially.

Artie, Your pano crop suggestion yields the best result imo, thanks! And, yes, I do have Alan Murphy's CD book.

Akos, I do love to get out, and have done my share of the driving-and-hiking-for-hours thing to see rarities, but my keeper rate has been dismal. I'm just looking at it from a return-on-investment perspective now :)
