I think this is a Black Crowned Night Heron.

nice calm pose. just looks a little underexposed. needed some positive EV because of the backlighting. maybe +2 or more.

does that lens AF with the 1.4 TC?

Thanks, Harold, and I agree that a bit more exposure would have helped.

Yes, the lens focuses fine with the 1.4 (makes it an f/5.6), but will not AF with a 2X (which is OK, because the 2X makes it too soft anyway).

The sun wasn't helping you, but a beautiful bird none the less. I agree with the underexposed image. Also the blurred foreground branches draw my eye. Keep 'em coming.........

hi Ian - agree with the above comments - Histogram on the back of the camera should have told the stroy here - make sure you use it and have those over exposure blinkies on.
Looking forward to seeing more :)

Hi Ian, It is a BC Night Heron.Looks like the bright backround fooled your meter and the subject is a bit underexposed as stated. The bright water, oof reeds and some reflection shadows are a bit distracting. In this case fill flash would of been helpful...
