I try to avoid noise as much as possible by pushing the exposure (histogram to far right without too much highlight clipping). I did that here, and although works real well with light colored birds, I got noise, which is not surprising at ISO 1600. Lower ISOs were not possible due to the lighting at the time. I'm thinking there is no other option than noise reduction software, so I used Topaz DeNoise4. Also water droplets could be removed. So what do you guys think? comments and critique welcomed. regards~Bill

I really like the pose with the nice bit of head and body turn towards you, outstretched wings and nice clear view of head.
I really like the water drops as it adds to the action for me.
Very sharp and I don't see any noise issues from ISO 1600.
I am not sure how it would look with a slightly darker bg. but that is just a thought.
hi bill
like it a lot and would not remove the water drops - add to the story for me.
like the pose - good clear sharp eye, only thing I might do is to remove the light colored wiggly line in the bg.
excellent!,,,
Thanks guys. I might not have been clear here. I used noise reduction software, and was wondering how it turned out. Though I often use it for backgrounds, or even specific parts of an image(much less often), here I applied it to the entire image. Of course I may be pixel peeping, working on a full size image, and the smoothing is much more noticeable up close. DUH! regards~Bill
I think the subject , even with NR applied to it has good detail. Looking around the head area and the far wing some of the fine detail comes through. It is probably necessary to see a before and after and then make a decision on personal preference.
I think you made a good choice.
William, this a wall hanger for sure. Super Congrats on a very fine image!!! I can't think of anything I would have done except maybe clone whatever is sticking out of the water between the feet, the BG is absolutely gorgeous and whatever it is caught my eye. Again beautiful!!!!!
Hi Bill, Looks to me like the NR did the job. I would suggest you keep the water drops. Overall good action with detailed wings and a very sharp head.
I would take out the light colored line on the upper left...
