The juvenile small herons have lovely patterns and blend in beautifully with the perches at Pilanesberg. I liked this frozen pose as it leapt from one branch to another.

Excellent shot, looks as though it is dancing! Lighting handled very well here, I like it. Composition is very good as well, strong but I like it.

The small thumbnail does not makes justice to this high key image. I totally agrre with you, the pose of the heron is really elegant and I love the matching between the pattern of its plumage and the textures of dead wood

Hi Tony, well timed for the take off here, and you are not wrong in saying the GB Heron matches the perches. Nicely framed between the two perches, and I like the sharpness you have achieved. When are you coming back? ;)

Absolutely stunning image Tony! I love everything about this image. Very elegant pose, beautifully framed in the strong perches that echo the pattern in the bird's plumage. The high key works extremely well, and draws your attention to the yellow feet and eye. A nice big one would look great hanging on a wall.

    Cheers!

I can dig it!! Very different... I tried another crop but not sure I like it better than the original. My thoughts were to eliminate the white space below the big branch at the lower left and shift the bird slightly to the right for balance. In any case the strong graphic lines here rock!

Hi Tony. Really interesting composition; love the way the bird and branches compliment each other in pattern and color. Great pose and hi-key presentation.

Super timing Tony. This is the most famous Juv GBH on BPN:D. See those grey skies we had in the BG:(. You have such a powerful image here.

Thanks for the comments, guys. I like your crop, Paul. I had lots of grey skies, Dumay - fortunately, I don't mind white BGs:)

Being that high key treatment is a favorite of mine, it's no surprise that I really like this image; unusual and effective composition and great caught in mid-jump pose.
