Hi Matthew - couple of things here to think about..
    Possible colour cast??
Tail is clipped always best not to have anything clipped - cropped on purpose is a different matter.
Looks a little soft on my screen could use some additional sharpening.

    Up for a repost?
    :)

Interesting looking owl. I am not sure what kind it is.

Might try selectively upping the exposure on the owl just to lighten it up a bit.

I really like the eye contact.

Hi Matthew, Good advice by Lance. I might add you were fortunate to have even lighting on the bird but have a distracting hot area on the branch below. It looks like your focus point was on the branch which appears sharper than the owl.
The owl looked like he was happy there so you might of had the opportunity for multiple images. If so take many images and make sure the bird is sharp and not clipped...Most often, when shooting birds you don't have that ability...

Nice looking Owl Matt. I agree with everything that was said and I look forward to more images from you. It's easy to say it's all about the light, but sometimes are feathered friends don't understand that. Keep 'em coming.....
