Peter, I like the pose. The eye and feather detail, and color are very nice. Nice BG too. Only wish is to have the tip of the beak in focus.:)

hi peter - agree with Julie - tip of the beak in focus for me also - so some more DOF and focus about half way along the beak should work fine.
Think I would go with more of a vertical crop rather than square - feels a little tight at the bottom.
Like the stare and sharp as a tack were it counts.
Would try setting a black and white point also.
    :)

Hi Peter, Great detail, even light and muted backround. Shooting this at F8 might(?) have given you the depth you needed to get the end of the bill sharp. On the D2x could have definately kicked the iso up higher.
Agree with some of the framing advice...

    Hey Guys,

Thanks for all the positives, I looked at the original and for some reason i didnt shoot this in vertical :/ for some reason i didnt switch!

I agree that i should have opened it up a little more, problem is that i can get away with ISO 400 but anything higher and it needs alot of PP to get a good image.

Looking back at it i wish i did get the front of the beak in :o

Think they are getting better tho, thankfully :p

Getting a 70-200 VR next week so will be even more fun to be had :D:D:D
