    Default 7D Doesn't AEB in M?

My 7D won't let me set bracketing in Manual mode but it will let me do it in Av.

Is this the way it works for you?

    Thanks.

In priority modes, bracketing knows to use exposure compensation to adjust exposure. In aperture priority, it will adjust shutter speed and in shutter priority it will adjust aperture. In manual mode there is no exposure compensation so the camera doesn't know what setting you want to change. Maybe that's why you can't bracket in manual mode.

The 5DII lets me AEB in M.

I'm wondering if it's a problem with my 7D or if it's working as designed.

According to the 7D manual page 237 Function Availability Table, Exposure section. AEB is possable in P. AV, TV and M modes. but Exposure Compensation is only available in P, AV. and TV modes.

I agree with Doug. Auto-exposure-bracketing requires the camera to adjust exposure by itself aka automatically. Manual exposure mode by default needs the photographer to do everything himself/herself including setting the exposure settings through adjusting aperture, shutter speed or ISO. It's interesting then that 7D can have AEB in manual exposure mode. :)

I did a quick check on my 7D because I've never used the AEB function. My 7D did let me set AEB in Manual mode, I set my aperture and shutter speed so there was room to shift in both directions, I set the AEB for 0,+1,-1, then took two series of three shots each, in both sets the shutter speed changed and aperture stayed the same.

Hey Lance I had a similar issue on my 40D when I first purchased it, the problem was operator error. Will it not let you set it, or do you set it and it doesn't work?

I'm betting on operator error, because it's working now.

    Thanks.
