This is taken in my backyard in Stoney Point in Ontario. This is a setup near a feeder. The BG is OOF cedars. I am just starting to get more time to shoot and hope to get a better image. All C&Cs appreciated.

    Hi Jim,
Really nice fine detail, especially on the neck area and a beautiful bg; I agree that a bit off the top would enhance the composition.

Very nicely done Jim, great sharpness and details on the bird and a nice clean background. I hope you don't mind, I've taken the liberty of making a small S/H adjustment to bring out a bit more detail in the dark wing and head feathers...what do you think?

Hmmm....not as much of an effect as on my monitor in PS.

    Cheers!

    Jim
this is very good - nice HA, details and great Bkgd
have yet to see one of these guys here in GTA this year

If you wanted to improve further on the image/technique: looks like you were in bright sunny conditions - - if HB stays perched long enough: you could push ISO higher or drop shutter speed to allow for higher f-stop (f11 - f16) to expand DOF to get tail feathers into better focus. Adding fill flash would help reduce the sharp, deeply shadowed area

But again, i'd be happy to have gotten this pic - - thanks for sharing

Hi Jim, what is there not to like in this - I rate this one of your best. I like the lght, and you have captured wonderful detail and colours. Good angle of pose, and the BG is a killer. Congrats.

Hi Jim- I like the image for the reasons mentioned above. I would crop from below a little to above the knot on the perch. Also I my calibrated monitor, the image looks a little subdued. I tried some work in LAB colour to boost saturation and separate the colours and it worked quite well. You might want to try that.
