I took this photo a few weeks ago as this badger was heading back to its den with a fresh vole catch, probably to feed its young. The badger was on the run just before sunrise at about 50 - 60 meters so I popped the 40D up to ISO 1600 and prayed for a documentation shot. Badgers are rarely seen, much less photographed in Missouri. So.......be nice!

Hi Danny. Love the capture of a rare mostly nocturnal mammal! I took the liberty of reducing the bg noise with Noiseware Pro and had a little fun coming up with a sig/chop for the repost. Good capturing!

Never heard of this animal and under the circumstances I'd be pretty stoked to have this one in the bag. Thanks for sharing this with us, very interesting.

    Hi Danny

Love the image, noise reduction by Dan was great and one fine capture !! Would suggest to crop top and bottom into more of a pano, animal is moving and will accentuate the forward motion !!

Posted one a while back form YNP, I was with Mike Robinson and he spotted snow being kicked up in the air, back up and sure enough it was a badger !!! ... and he was driving .. and the action was on my side of the car :)

    Hey Danny,
Congrats on the sighting and the capture. Catchlight, prey in the mouth, good sharpness on the head, and some blurred legs from running make this a pretty good "documentation" shot for me.

Thanks everybody. I've got to go and check out Al's post. I've heard these guys throw dirt and snow six feet in the air when digging.

Good capturing a rare animal. I agree that a pano would work better here. Thanks for sharing.

    Cheers,
