I know this has some focus problems related to DOF but don't know why it happened. Should all of the bee be in focus (rear legs) Other then that I like what i was able to get from him.

    Hi Vince

With these close up images the dof is very limited and f 8.0 won't cover the legs. I would try focusing on the head, be selective and shoot a lot. Will always have a low keeper rate.

I like the overall feel, framing with the colors and it is a sharp image. For these I would like to make them at their own level head on .. this form the top is not bad at all!!! ... also did well raising the ISO First get a reasonable shutter speed then the ISO, also a tripod is a must for macro ... wind is a problem so pick calm days but heat will be a problem !!! Looking forward to the next one !!

hi Vince - Great advice from AL!!
handheld for macro - you are a sucker for punishment AND a windy day - have done very well under those circumstances - keep em coming.

Hi Vince, To get the sharpest possible image and maximum DOF you should shoot at F22 and use a tripod. Your success rate will increase dramatically.
In the image above I would have wished for more DOF and the flower center on the left seems to take away from the strength of the bee...
