Large Large crop - water drops are quite evident in the full size image - Pushed the whites right to the edge - around the 240 mark. These guys are Fast and that eye is a tough one to keep a catchlight whilst not blowing the whites.

Look sharp for a large crop, good catch light which help bring out the eye from the dark feather, nice wing down position and stick in the beak is a plus. However I do wish a more separation between the wing and the stick. Always like the sea background.

Hi Lance, These birds are very quick and you did a good job with exposure, lighting(as stated not easy to get eye that visible)sharp and detailed. I don't see deterioration from a large crop.....well handled

Lance, very nice detail for such a crop. That 800mm is very sharp. A tad past you, but they are such a fast bird, I would love having such luck with this one. Congrats!!

So this brings up a interesting question - whats better????

A little past you with a better wing position

    or

Before you - but no good wing position??

Interested to hear what everyone thinks.

I vote for better wing position. As long as you get a good view of the head and eye. IMHO

    Hi Lance,
I'm jealous of your Tern. Spent a little over an hour last Sunday trying to get a good one, but NOoooo!
It really was comical, as one Tern kept coming in close and hovering right in front of me, but I was focused on a spot for them to fly into, so by the time I'd switch focus, too late. They are a challenge, for sure.

I think I agree with Richard regarding your question, but, your Heron shot from yesterday sure worked too.
So.... Interesting to see what others say.

Awesome details considering the large crop. I know I know it's the D3s. Still waiting my friend.

Good details for a large crop Lance, better wing position even it is past you I think still works.
