I think this is a Magnificent (I should have paid more attention to Doug and Greg with bird ID) from Costa Rica.

    1dm3; f6.3, 1/500; Av +2/3; ISO 800; no flash C&C encouraged and greatly appreciated.

    Katie:

Lovely bird, great colors, pleasant background. Perch looks a bit "manufactured" but moss is nice.

There is a noticeable halo around the head and shoulder area.

Just a touch of flash might have filled in the darker areas on the front, without being obtrusive.

    Shooting angle a bit steep,

    Cheers

    Randy

Hi Katie, the angle may be a tad steep, but you have captured a unique perspective. Lovely iridescence, and the HB stands out well against the two tone BG.

Hm, without any book handy I'd say Green Violetear but I might be wrong.
In any case excellent display of the "ears", like the iridescence a lot and
the angle with this display pose is not bad in this case IMO. It is unusual but
shows the bird in a different way. I like it a lot. Agree with Randy about the
    halo and flash.

That is one POd hummer :)
Excellent critique above and I'll add that colors and pose are terrific.
Glad you enjoyed your trip to CR :)

A most excellent shot of a Green Violet-ear.

Beautiful bird, BG and colors. Agree with Randy's critique.
I don't like the broken ends of the perch.

Very nice Green Violetear Katie! Love the "ears"! Agree with the critiques but I like all the same. Wish i'd been there!

Well done - it's not often you see them with their "ears" flared. I also like that you got both eyes symmetrically into the the picture.
The broken ends of the perch could easily be "fixed" in PS

I like the flared ears. It looks like your Costa Rica trip was great. Well done!
