Another image from Costa Rica. The foliage was dense and a challenge to photograph this little beauty. They are such beautiful birds and I did not want to go away without at least one image.

    Judy:

Looking at your settings shows how tough the lighting was there.
Good looking bird, head appears just a bit soft on my monitor.
The perch is colorful, but wish it didn't block the tail.
I might consider toning down the OOF area in the foreground, as the combination of brightness and colors tends to draw the eye from the slightly more subdued subject!
Did you have to run noise reduction?

    Cheers

    Randy

Tough lighting conditions ,but you seem to have handled it very well. Perch is a bit overpowering , but beyond your control. Glad you didn't pass this beautiful bird up due to lack of optimum cinditions. That would have been sad. TFS

    Hello Judy,

LOve the bird and the way you have exposed it. It is wonderful that you have brought this beauty to us. I totally love the composition here. only the contrasting branch colors are a bit distracting( i think is the right word for me). otherwise really love it.

Judy, lovelycolours on the bird, and they all compliment each other. You certainly did do very well considering the light, and well done for achieving that.

This is a lovely low-key image. Great colours and the bird is sharp. I like the pose too. The cluster of branches in the foreground are a bit of a distraction for me -- maybe just tone the intensity of the branches down a tad?

One of my favorites I've seen from your trip, good detail and contrasting BG. Sweet!

Lovely Judy. What a great bird. Only ever seen them in bird books! I like the perch but agree that it would have been nicer without the OOF part. The BG complements the bird very well. I am surprised that the f9 did not get you enough DoF to get the centre breast in sharp focus, or maybe this is just an illusion.

Costa Rica is on my list pf places to visit!
