I have not used flash much and I thought I would get going with it. 50D, 500mm +1.4TC, 1/1600, f/5.6, ISO400 and ff at -1.67. Perhaps a bit too much flash.

Dave, nice image and background. I don't know if you saw my RWB post but you can sure see the difference with flash being used. Don't know enough to say if it was too much or too little flash but it sure brings out the detail. I guess I have to try flash sometime.:)

Hi Dave - black birds soak up light like there is no tomorrow - flash looks OK to me - at that SS depending on the distance your flash output was already reduced by the high speed sync.
Good HA and eye contact and like the BG.
Would crop some from the top.
    Keep them coming :)

    Thanks for the comments.

Good point about the blacks soaking up light Lance. I had not thought of that. Tks.
Shot is full frame and there was some eye work req'd due to flash so with BB I think there was an effect.

    Hi Roy,
It is hard to get a clean BB right now especially in the reeds where there is a lot of mud and it does mess the birds up a bit. I think you can get some pretty decent shots without flash on our many overcast bright days.
Lots of warblers around, just hard to get them in the clear.
