I have been using a Steiner Peregrine 8.5-50 and just changed to a Leupold Mojave 10x42 Binocular from Eagle Optics very clear and sharp and I can see and make out birds better than I did with the old binoculars and they are light. Have a lifetime warranty. $359

I really like my minox 8x44 porro prisms. Very good low light performance and amazing clarity.

I have Nikon Monarch 8 x 42 mm binoculars that provide bright, sharp optics. They cost less than $300 and are an excellent value. They are also highly rated wherever they have been reviewed.

Nikon Monarchs are tough to beat for the money. Right now you can pick up a pair of Leupold 10 X 42's for $699.00 with a $100.00 rebate. For the money invested, they are an absolute steal.

I just bought a pair of Vortex Vipers. Eagle sold it to me for $499.99.
I'm very happy with them. Check the reviews.

Hi Don, You have looked thru my Nikon Monarchs 8x42 if they suited your needs I see no reason to spend more money for glasses if you are not using them for birding IMHO.

Another vote from me for the Nikon Monarch 8 x 42s. Lightweight and quite clear. My pair lives on my kitchen table, or on the dashboard when I travel. Totally satisfactory for general use.

    Don--

As Ed said, give Jim Zipp a call at The Fat Robin.

He'll walk you through your choices based on your intended use and his prices are great.

Monarch 8x42 on sale at LL Bean. Guaranteed by Bean. Great price and great service.
Or get Swarovski, Leica or Zeiss 8x30 or 8x32. Small, light, waterproof and tough. Any one of these.
