    Default Gull on Ice

Wow, no new images today. Since I haven't posted one for quite some time I guess I'll set myself up as a target!

When shooting gulls on ice I expect to have the problem of making something out of a white bird on a white background. But this is spring and the ice is rotten and black and some gulls like this Bonaparte's have dark heads so the problem was dark against dark. Did I get enough separation?

    Hi Declan,

well caught, i think i might go a little tighter lose some of the OFF water in the foreground and maybe a little off the left. Would mask the BG and do some NR as well.

love the low angle and the eye contact, well caught, nice work :)

Hi Declan - love the low shooting angle, like the open beak pose and the clear sharp eye, agree with Harold on the bottom right corner.
Id be tempted to crop some from the bottom removing that black area all together. The specular highlights in the BG dont worry me.
    Good show :)

Hi Declan Looks good and you came up with the correct exposure !!

Presentation wise would make into more of a pano, take some from top and bottom, will accentuate bird's shape !! Like it a lot !!!

    Hey all,

I'm in an environmental phase these days, trying to get more environment with the bird in my images. In this case the effect seems to be diminished in the small image as posted. But, the suggestion to crop out the ice blob along with more of a pano approach just might make us all happier. So here's a new version:
