    Default Female Scarlet Tanager

This female Scarlet Tanager was putting on a nice display in the foliage at Rondeau Provincial Park (Ontario) last weekend. It was taken in the shade on a sunny day. Being a natural light shooter it took some time to get a shot with the just the right light. I had to lighten some shadows a bit but not much else.

    1/800s f/4.5 at 500.0mm iso200 no flash moderate crop.

    C&C appreciated, thanks!

This is quite lovely Gary considering you have filtered light, which is a challenge to deal with. I like the unorthodox composition- the OOF branch below the bird frames her nicely. Bird is sharp all over. The only things I would wish for is some CW rotation of the head for an angle slightly towards you rather than away, and an uncut branch. Nice job.

Thanks John for the thoughtful comments. Good point about the head angle...I really didn't notice it until you mentioned it. Yes, it is too bad about the branch, but I also thought the OOF background features framed the bird nicely so went with this version.

    Cheers!

This is a great image Gary, the colours look good, and that little bit of light coming through really sets this image off., awesome., truly a work of art.

Very nicely done. The nice soft foliage adds to the filtered light feeling.
I had not noticed the cut branch and that little bit of ha would have been a nice plus.

    Very well done.
