Sharp. Loverly BKGR. Bummer that part of the bird is hidden behind the perch.

Huge problem: the yellow are oversaturated/toasted. You need to spend some time in the Tutorials and Educational Resources Forum. Be right back.

    Thanks for the feedback Artie!

I'm confused about the saturation though, because I did not touch the bird, just the BG. I actually decreased contrast on the bird to show more feather detail. On my monitor I can see feather detail throughout the entire face. I'm sure you've seen male Yellow Warblers...isn't that exactly how they look though?? Thanks for the tips.

Hi Ryan, On my calibrated laptop the yellows of the neck are showing no detail.

    You can start here: http://www.birdphotographers.net/for...ad.php?t=39984

But there is more.... Right back again.

    And here: http://www.birdphotographers.net/for...ad.php?t=35243

I was surprised that there was only a sprinkling of over-exposed pixels and surprised at how much trouble I had with the YELLOWs in the repost. Also lost the extra branch.

What are others seeing with the YELLOWs in the Pane 1 image?

Just a FWIW comment....I always have a devil of a time not blowing out Yellow Warblers -- even after carefully controlling the exposure in the field, if the bird is in strong light I often have to drop another -2/3's EC or more in post to get control of the fine feather detail. Basically, shooting these guys in strong light is problematic for me.

The yellows don't look overexposed on my monitor
but there are flat patches on the lores and cheeks.
On a different and very dark monitor I see more detail,
especially on the cheeks. So the details seem to be there
    but needs work.
I just want to point out that the problem is probably
related to the blue channel, the histogram shows blocked
blues. It can be resolved by moving the blues to the right
as was shown in one of the threads Artie posted.

You are much better off reading the two tutorials linked to above and working with the yellows than just creating darker and darker images to save the yellows...

WOW!! I love this image. The colours detail and the way the subject stands out on the BG
