    Default Hummer stretch

    Attached Images Attached Images

Hi again, This is the same male Rufous Hummingbird that I posted yesterday morning with his gorget flared, this time he is stretching all those tiny tough-guy muscles during a short break from guarding ‘his’ feeders.

The bird and perch are in the shade of the house in the late afternoon, (when this was made), and the background deciduous trees with fresh leaves in bright sunlight…hence the fairly yellow background.
All comments and critiques are much appreciated and thanks for looking!
    Cheers!

    Bruce:

This guy is all about attitude!
I love the variety of colors you can get on the gorget.
Nice choice on aperture for DOF.
    Great tail flare.
    Beautiful lighting.

    Cheers

Bruce, this one's a winner. Just a rocking pose....with the look and fanned tail and the gorget and all. Some might feel the DOF is too shallow...but not me. I love it as-is. Beautiful comp, colors and perfect exposure.

    Once again, beautifully done.
Colors, pose, and attitude make this a wonderful image.
I am one of those that might wonder about a deeper DOF. On one hand, I would love to see the tail and wing as sharp as the gorget, but I also like the DOF as is because it gives the photo more of a 3-D look - as if the hummer is coming out of the photo.
In any event, really love the image. Again find myself wishing that our migration hadn't been so sparse (I've only had one ruby male thru my yard).

I kind of like the DOF here, it really brings out the head on the beautiful BG bad light.
Not opposed to see the tail shaper either, could go either way. Congrats!

Thank-you very much everyone. I'm not at all sure that I could have brought a lot more of the bird into focus even at f/16 or less. DOF is pretty shallow near the MFD of the lens. I'm happy with the shot, but would also have liked to get the detail in the feathers of the tail. I really enjoy photographing these guys, so I'll keep trying!

    Cheers!
