    Took this today at Serpentine fen. Overcast skies

    Camera: NIKON D300S
    Focal length: 700*mm*(equiv. 1050*mm)
    Aperture: F5.6
    Exposure time: 1/400"
    ISO speed rating: 200/24°

    you got a nice perch and BG, it would be more appealing if the head was turned a bit towards you, also the bird is soft most likely due to lack of shutter speed. You can crank up the ISO to 400 or more for faster shutter speed.

    Arash is right, don't be afraid to crank that ISO up if needed. ISO 400 is the new 100. =)

    Also, it's very hard to get those blacks exposed correctly. A little fill flash would have helped here, especially around the head/eye where it's quite dark.

    Hi Roy, I can push the D300 to 8oo iso without much noticeable noise. Agree with above comments regarding softness and HA. I also noticed there appears to be a green caste in the image. I would crop some off the right also...

    Arash, I did bump the ISO up a little later, I'll see if I can find a better shot. The bird looks way softer here than on my home screen.

    Dave, I am still learning the 300s and have to get used to going above 400 iso.:) Never noticed the green cast, will check it out. Thanks.
