    Default Red-billed Tropicbird

    D90; 80-400 VR @ 370mm. ISO 400. f/7.1 @ 1/2500s. -1.0 EV. HH. 67% of full-frame.

Taken two weeks ago from the top of a cliff on Espanola Island, Galapagos. Came home with lots of images, and not sure where to begin; but for my 1000th post I figured I'd start with this one. Minor levels adjustments and USM. C&C appreciated.

1,000 eh! Congrats on the milestone. Nice oceanic feel to the image. Hard to compose with the long tail...its placed just a bout right in the frame, but I feel you could trim some off the bottom. I also see a faint wing-tip clone mark below the belly. Enjoy all the PP you are faced with...always fun returning from a trip!!

Congratulations on the milestone and great species. I'd love to see these someday. I like the angle, topside view and BG. I might tone down the whites more and bring out some more details in the blacks.

Very nice bird. I hope to visit their breeding spot in Tobago next year. Nice, elegant and strong simply cmposition!

Thanks Daniel. Good eye and a sharp monitor. I did remove a bit of the white surf just below the bird, and failed to see the residual clone mark. I also agree about taking some off the bottom. Thanks for the comments.

Thanks Axel. At the last minute I decided to boost the contrast a bit to pop out the bird, and I didn't leave any cushion for the slight extra contrast that seems to happen with jpeg conversion and posting to BPN. Neither the blacks nor whites were clipped in the TIFF, and technically are within bounds on the jpeg, but I agree there appears to be a little loss of detail in the posted image. I appreciate the comments, and will go back and fix the master file.

Here's a repost with a slight pano crop, more detail in the blacks, toned down whites, and removal of the cloning artifact. Thanks for the helpful comments.

The repost is a very good improvement.
