Well, this is my last of dual-bird images for a while. I'm just trying to get a handle on what works when you have more than one.

nice to have two of these anytime. I would clone out the specs; they do distract from the birds esp. since they are so prominent against the dark background. I'd also crop some from the top and lighten the shadows a bit in the background GBH. nicely done.

Thanks, Michael. There actually were about a dozen of the birds close together and I took an image for my interest, but it was not worth posting. I'm interested in your comment about the specks (floating debris). I sort of thought they gave a "starry night" feel to the image, which is why I left them in. I'll try removing them and see what it looks like.

Specks don't quite give a "starry night" feel because they are not all over the image, only in center. So, instead of clone "out", clone "in" ? :)
I don't work with reflections much, but I wonder the effect if they were darkened some?

Hmmmm ... clone in dirt ... that would be a first for me :) I'll give that a try too. Thanks!

Hi Ian - Personally I dont mind the specks, part of the habitat - could just be me though - This works better than your other dual bird images.
I would add some sharpening to the birds as they appear a little soft on my screen - sharpening the eyes can make the whole image appear sharper.
Could also just try a little S/H.
    Keep em coming :)

Thanks, Lance. I think sharpness is where I suffer most using that zoom with a TC. Pardon me for asking: what's S/H (I know it's not shipping and handling)?

    NM .... I just figured it out ... Shadow/Highlight :)

Hi Ian, Nothing to add and good comments above. One thing that works when you have two birds is catch them interacting in some way. It tells a story and has more impact...

A friend helped me with some PP work so I could see it without the BG ... not sure which I prefer.

I like the specs Ian, are you getting those shots at Gilbert Riparian? Looks a little familiar.

Thanks Daniel and Stan. The more I look at both versions, the more I like the specks.

Yes, these are from Gilbert. I just discovered the place this past week thanks to a reference to it here on BPN. I've lived in Phoenix for 10 years and had never heard of it. It's a great place to find waders (and feral cats). I actually saw a group of a dozen GBHs there together on Sunday evening - more than I'd ever seen together in one place at one time.
