Steve, Big welcome to the forum. You will fit right in with this fine group. I like your first post. The OOF marigold in the BG is in a nice position and helps the composition IMO. You have good focus on the main flower. My main concern for this image is the shadows. I just got CS5 and can't wait to try out the new HDR capabilites. According to George Lepp they are suppose to be outstanding. Can you give us your feedback on the HDR program? Was it user friendly? etc...:)

Steve, I added weekly theme to your title as your image qualifies for our theme week contest. See the sticky at the top of this page for more info.

denise, Thank you for the warm welcome and comment. I couldn't decide between the early morning sidelight glow or seeing if HDR would even the contrast. Went with HDR and it was easy in CS5. The preset choices are available for different starting points from photorealistic to impressionistic and the entire process flowed easily from Lightroom and back. I have also used Photomatix a little (convert to jpg) and I think I like CS5 a bit better, especially because I think it stays in 16bit dng (raw).

Hi Steve and welcome. I love the colors. Love em. The first thing that I would have done here is shaded the entire scene. The shadows, especially the rather sharp one on the main subject, are an image-wrecker for me. I do look forward to seeing more of your work. Do you do any birds? :)

Big welcome, Steve! :) Very nice first image. I love the bold colors and treament. I think a more blurred BG might improve this.

Arthur, birds are on my bucket list:) Hope to find some good perches for eagle and osprey on Lake of the woods this Summer. Thanks to all for your comments. I am really enjoying this learning experience.

Good luck with the birds. They are easy down here in FLA!
