    Default Final Flight of Atlantis

I took this shot of the launch flight of the space shuttle Atlantis on its final flight to the space station, from my porch in Port St Lucie, about 100 miles south of the Cape. Only two more shuttle launches are scheduled, in Mid July and Mid September. Then the program will cease with the possible extension with the Constellation program which is currently not supported by the White House and may be scrubbed.

the launch dates are sept 16 and mid nov now. the postponement of atlantis must have pushed the last two back.

Great capture Mark. Sad to see and end of an era. Hope the future holds something even better. What a great run the shuttle had. My hat is off to the brave men and women who went into space, some of whom gave their lives.

Thanks all for viewing and comments. I hope America remembers what space travel is about and supports the program, or we will be headed backwards in technology. Expensive, but the rewards are many for not only us, but the world.

Thanks Harold for the update, I haven't been current of late but look forward to the last two and what hopefully will follow.

    YUP! ;) :D

Thanks for viewing and comments, Nicki. It is better from the Cape, but when you can't make it, going outside and seeing this is Far Out!!! as we use to say! ;)

Yup, Al. 300mm w/2x and cropping, but this is what it looks like from about 100 miles south of the Cape. Nighttime is even more awesome. ;)

Thanks for viewing and comment, Judy. Yes, it is sad that another era has to end. Just hope it isn't the final end of space. There are two more launches, if you haven't caught one. It's something you will never forget ... Day or night.
