took this shot the other day,one of 2010 fledged dippers on my local river, dippers can be hard to photograph in the light, they always seem to be in shady places.cannon 50d,400mm prime lens 1/4x con, tripod,in middle of river,1/60sec,+1/3,f9.0,iso500,comments wellcome good or bad.thanks.
Congratulations on the river-wading capture, Christopher ! It's a pleasure to see this little one.
Comp and exposure are excellent under challenging lighting conditions.
The dipper is, of course, a bit soft owing to, I presume, the 1/60 shutter speed. That might be rectified a bit in post production if you were so inclined.
Esthetically, the strength of the rock and the fragility of the young bird add to the emotional appeal of the image.
thanks for your comments, these birds are always bobing up and down,so the slow shutter speed as not helped, should have upped the iso.thanks again for comments.
Love the bird, the head angle, and the rock with adornments. Fill flash would yield a sharper image in low light. Suggestion: a small crop from the left for compositional balance.

YAW. Yes, slightly. Flash would have improved it greatly.
