Have been shooting in my backyard lately, since many people are interested in how set ups are done and look like I decided to make a little video of it :)
Killer bird, pose, and BKGR. Love the foot on the pine cone. Will watch the video asap. The pattern of the back/scaps/coverts is amazing. A tad lighter on the face and a bit of bill clean-up would not hurt.

Superb Starling image, Jan. Really captures the "stars" and iridescence of fresh plumage. Perch, pose and BG are perfect. I would print this big and hang it on the wall:D
Jan, I have to say this is the best shot of staring I've ever seen. quite spectacular. the perch is great. so are the exposure, dof, pose, colors, BG and sharpness.
Love the pose -- pine cone adds considerably to the drama of the photo. Also, video is really fun to watch. I think there's more than enough empty space to let the eye rest in this photo, so would be inclined to crop a little tighter, starting from the left and bottom, leaving room for birdie to fly away to the right. Kudos overall.

Stunning image - can't add to what's been said above
Watched the video. It's obvious your setup works based on your post. But one suggestion i'd make - - your feeder is large enough that it allows the birds to land directly on it. Leaving it out when you're not photographing is a good idea, but switching too a smaller, narrower feeder during your photo sessions can help force the birds to land on your perch if the perch is positioned near enough to the smaller feeder
