Good sharpness and a loverly BKGR. If this was with the 100-400 lens, you needed to zoom wider so as to include the whole neck. I like the scraggly crest. The biggest problem is that the bird's head is turned slightly away from you.... See the various head angle posts in Tutorials and Educational Resources.

Agree with Maestro Morris' assessment and I really like the color of the sky.
Big welcome to BPN, will be looking forward to more from you.

YAW Steve, And thanks for your membership support. Do you have something wider? Were you using the 100-400?

Yes I was using the 100-400. Next time will try and go wider.

    Steve:
In retrospect, a trick you could have done here, if you were already as wide as you could go, and couldn't move back, you could frame it so the entire neck was visible, and could easily add canvas to the left later because of the simple background, or take two shots, one with the head like you want it, second with more room to the left. Merge them in post production.

    Big welcome to BPN

    Artie:

Thanks for the correction. As I read down through the flow of comments, I got the impression that he needed to go to a wider lens, not just zoom out. My misinterpretation.

He had the easy solution right in his hands!

Thanks for understanding Randy. Some folks have problems zooming in and out, and some forget that they have a zoom lens in their hands :)

Agreed with AM re neck crop. Same goes for shooting children ... try to avoid partially chopping off body parts ... as much as you might like to. Delicious salmon colored background, albeit somewhat too uniform to my taste. Nice the way the eye pops out at you, but seems a little soft. Thanks for sharing. - RG

Great looking BG! I have no problem with it being so uniform, in fact, in this kind of image it works very well, at least for me. I would increase contrast a bit and I also agree about the bird looking a bit soft. Please keep them coming.

Great shot, Steve. The eye and the crown are great, at the bg really puts this over the top.

    See you out there.
