took this yesterday, was parking my car up,and saw it opposite squatting on fence post, took the shot with camera resting on car roof, got 4shots off and it was away up in the sky singing away.thelight was behind me,but the lark was a bit tomy right, but I like the light on the front of the bird, their is still good detail in the shadow, and I like the efect.I would like the head to be slightly turned to me a tad but you can not have it perfect all the time.cannon 50d,400mm prime lens,1/4 ex,1/500sec,f8.0,iso500,-1/3ex.thanks comments good bad wellcome.

Sweet capture in pretty lighting and excellent detail and exposure. I agree with your self critique and a little more head turn would be nice but a very lovely image and so sharp. thanks for sharing.

    Chris:

The side lighting does give nice definition/depth. I might prefer it slightly more towards your left shoulder (the light) but nice as is. The head angle is OK for me. If it was turned more towards us, the angle of the light might cast the face into a shadow.

    Nicely exposed.

I have mixed feelings about the background. In general I wish it was a bit more uniform in regard to brightness.

Not the most complimentary perch, but at least it is somewhat weathered.

Good job keeping your eyes open and having your gear ready!

    Cheers

    Randy

very nice details and sharpness, a tighter crop will also work well here
