    Default Eye of the Butterfly

    Another attempt at macro shots of butterfly's. I was trying to get some close-ups of the face. I found this very hard while hand holding.

    Shot with;

    Pentax K100D, vivitar 70 - 210mm manual focus.

    ISO 200, Shutter Speed 1/160 and F16 (I think).

    Thanks for looking!

    Hi Bob, your steadier than I am to hand hold this at 1/160 sec. Being this close even at f16 your DOF will be very limited. I've been studying this for awhile and like the sharpness of the eye and the flow of the wings from the foreground to the backround. The only thing that looks a bit odd to me is the area behind the eye.Areas on that plane appear to be sharper which has me wondering.
    All in all not an easy image to capture...

    Dave, I think it is from oversharpening. Handholding shooting macro is not easy.

    Hand held macros not easy at all - would have pushed that ISO to 400 and doubled the shutter spEed - not sure if you would get much more in the way of ISO from the 100D.
    Like the eyes but find the rest a little bright.

    Thanks guys!

    I was thinking the same thing about the body of the butterfly. The eye is nice and sharp but something just didn't look right about the body. I just thought maybe it was the shallow dof.

    I was worried about using the on camera flash and overexposing the shot. I did that last time with a few shots at ISO 400. So I thought I would try ISO 200 and see how that worked.

    Thanks again, I will keep trying!!!
