Fellow BPNr and close friend, Mike Fuhr, starts a day of shooting at Grand Isle, Louisiana. We arrived two days after the explosion. As you can see, the oil rigs always loomed on the horizon, but the bird photography was fantastic! Lets hope it stays that way but my optimism is fading. I set up a gallery with bird shots from the trip on my website.

    P.S. I agree that I continue to be a below-average landscape photographer.:)

This is a beautiful scene, Danny. Hoping the oil is contained soon.
You should send this to the oil companies----:(

Al, Bonnie and Judy - Yes this oil spill is very disturbing. As a fisheries biologist I have been sad to hear about many environmental disasters over the years, but this one is on my mind from the moment I wake up until the moment I go to sleep. I think it is because it is such a Pandora's Box that nobody can figure out how to close. It is downright scary to think about how much oil is going into the gulf every minute of the day and we can't shut it off. Maybe tomorrow will bring some good news!!!!!!!!

I agree, the sheer amount of oil polluting the gulf is beyond what I can imagine. I'm afraid the consequences will be with us for quite a while.

Danny: I have to laugh -- I saw this picture w/out realizing you posted it and thought, "wow, that looks just like Grand Isle..." :)

It weighs on my mind too. It is very worrisome that we hear less and less about it in the news despite no progress to fix the leak. I'm afraid it will be very bad. I hope a few places like Grand Isle will be spared.

And I agree, it's a nice capture (despite the goon in the foreground, and his bad HA...)
