    Default Female Common Redpoll

While photographing the overwintering Hermit Thrush there is also a small flock of Common Redpolls feeding on the niger seeds that don't seem to mind the presence of a camera lens. This female was more than willing to pose for a few seconds.

Canon Rebel XT + 100-400L @330mm, 1/320s., f/7.1, ISO400, fill flash set at FEC -1 to neutralize backlit situation, 90% full frame, handheld.

Beautiful job on this. I like the hazy branches in the background. Did you use the camera's built in flash?

Hi Gary, thanks for the comment. I use an external flash for my images - an older Canon 420EX that shall soon be replaced by a 580EX:) ...but It has done an admirable and adequate job.

Very nice redpoll capture, Daniel! I have photographed these birds many times in front of my house, but have never gotten an image as good as this. Great work.
