Hope you don't mind the boarder???
I was lucky to have one hold still for a second.

There is a lot to like in this shot. Spot on sharp focus, great exposure, great colours with flowers and the bird and very nice motion blur of the wings. My only comment would be to give a bit more space on the right.
Excellent shot.
Joe

Agree with Joe.
What was the shutter speed?
I don't mind the border but the square corner in BG bothers me some. I'd do something to it in Photoshop.

I like this image a lot and agree that the focus is spot on. Great manual work. I am going to disagree with Tom and Joe and say this is one where I don't think you need extra space on the right. The flowers work as a natural end to the photo and I think if there were more flowers then they might compete with the bird for our attention. This way our attention is clearly on the bird. But to each their own.

LOVE this image, and I love the flower border - just enough but not too much. I also wonder what the shutter speed was? Tack sharp - nice!

I've been trying to get one of these guys. i like the wings barely showing in the image. I agree with Tom about eliminating the square shape in the left and upper-left background.
Hi guys, I am no PS expert so how can he take out the square in the
background without affecting the beautiful wing action?

Hi,
Newbie here, but need to start somewhere.:) So I'll start with an image I'd wish were mine, though there's been many of those.
I too love everything about this photo. The only thing I might do is to shave a smidge off the top, just leaving a shadow of the black. But that's just me.
Thanks for sharing this beautiful Hummingbird shot!

Focus on the head is spot-on IMO. I always try to stop a lot of the wing-blur on these little dynamos, but I like the way your relatively slow shutter speed makes the wings look like a fairy.
Hi - Great job on the manual focus - nailed it.
Like it a lot - clear sharp eye with good catchlight and the flowers are good.
I like the wing Blur!! - Going to make it very hard to get rid of the BG distraction.
Big Congrats :)

Many approaches to taking out the square. Try to eliminate it all, try to make it larger. I tried to eliminate the straight edges that define the square. The hardest line is the one within the wing. Anyway here's a shot at it, done in PS mostly with clone tool, some eraser -

Good job with the manual focus, head looks very sharp with lots of feather details. The fairy like wing blur is very well done, I like it very much. As for the frame around the image, I prefer one color rather than white black edge, but it's only a personal taste. Agree about the box shape OOF background, would be nicer without that. The transparent look in the wing make it hard to eliminate the OOF box.
Tom, I cannot see the image of your repost, maybe it's the net at my office.
Hi Ned, Good subject with a very sharp head. I like the positioning of the bird and feel you are showing an adequate amount of flowers. The problem is the wings are blending into a distracting area of the backround. It appears to be an incredibly difficult area to separate.
Very lucky to get the head sharp shooting at 1/100 sec...
Hi Ned Neat capture and lots of good things with the image !!!
Agree with all comments and there has been some great ones One that i find significant is the landing flower, Joe mentions more room and it is the key !!!
Shutter speed wise there is not much you can do, the low shutter is fine ans long as you have enough for the body and not high enough that will cut down the flash. Those wings are only going to be stopped by multiple flashes !!
btw hummers are predictable and will return to an area over and over, just set up with a good bg and wait !!!
