    Default Boundary Bay Sunrise

Here is one taken a few weeks ago.
    50D, 70/200mm at 70mm, f/16, ISO400, Manual.
I am curious about a couple generic sort of things.
What do you do about the sun and bits surrounding it? Do you just let it go and let the bits and pieces around the sun be blown out?
And sort of a related question, how do you handle the exposure? I am wondering do you try and get the camera settings to duplicate what you are seeing and then not really adjust too much in the conversion and post processing? In some situations, like this one, I was trying to get what I was seeing.

Photo is cropped and a few other flying bits were removed.

    Thanks a lot,
    Dave

Hi Dave, The only way you will not burn the sun is seconds after it peaks out. Other than that, like here, it will be blown. I think you handled it very well. it looks light but not blown.
Your composition is also very nice and good colors.
The birds add a dynamic element to the image.
    Congrats.

I really like the mood of this one, what make this special is the flock of silhouette birds and their reflection over the water, very nice. Don't know if we can get the digital camera to capture what our eye see, since digital camera captures a linear tone where our eye isn't (or so from what I've read). Also our eye can see more dynamic range (tonal different between shadow and highlight) than the camera.

... Thanaboon you are correct in the tonal range difference, camera does not even come close !!!

Hi Dave, Dealing with an intense sun I feel you did pretty well. All the elements come together well here. The diagonal placement of the sun and birds is a plus and play well off each other. The sky and the water both have a nice tonality. Nice image!!

Thanks very much for the looks and comments.

And yes it makes sense about the dynamic range so either deal with the intense sun one way or the other or avoid it.

    Thanks again.

    Dave
