First post! This is a great site and I am very happy to be a part of it.

Got this capture at Long Key Nature Center (FL) on a beautiful sunny day.

    Techs:

    Nikon D80
    f/8
    1/1600sec
    ISO-200
    -0.3 EC
    400mm FL
    No Flash
    Manual
    Minimal crop. No other enhancements.

    C/C appreciated.

Red carpet welcome to BPN, Oscar.
We have another Oscar, local, in ETL, he's known as OZ.
I guess we'll have to call you OV :)
Good whites, did you by any chance lighten him in post processing, because I see a slight halo around the bird and not from sharpening.
Nice head angle and pose. The composition would improve if you take some off behind the bird to get him off center and desaturate the sky also.
I hipe you can feel right at home here.

Very nice pose giving by the bird and I like how it is standing on top of the perch, just wish a little more separation between the beak and the body. I see halo around the bird also. Might also try some noise reduction on the blue background.

Big Warm Welcome Oscar !!! .. will have to go with Ov :)

For the sky its easy, go to the saturation menu, select the blue channel then lighten some then desaturate When working on images can magnify to actual pixels for better viewing any halos etc !!

Great to see the place still open !! Looking forward to the next one !!!

Thanks Fabs, OV is cool. Not many Oscars around except at the academy awards!
Great suggestions. I do not remember lightening the pic. Does that usually create the halo effect?
I read some time ago that using VR has a similar effect on pics but haven't played with that theory
yet to see if it is true.

Thanks Alfred! In my display, the halo looks like it is mostly in the bottom part of the bird.
I'll magnify it to 50% to see the halo effect better.

Hi Oscar - another big warm welcome to BPN - nice first post.
Agree with Fabs and AL'S comments - might also run a little noise reduction on the background. Exposure looks good - Halo is most prominent around the tail.
Looking forward to seeing more :)

Hey OV, this is Oz. Great first post and a big welcome to the family. Tech have been covered, agree with Fabs as far as cropping a little from the left. I like the composition of your subject. Hope we can meet soon.

OV, were you using active d-lighting? I noticed I got a halo when using it in Birds in the sky when I used Nikon.

Hi Oscar, I also welcome you! Agree with comments above and not much to add. The halo appears at the bottom to me also.
