    Default White Pelican, and lunch

    Olympus E-30; ISO 400; 1/2000; f/5.6; 123mm (4/3 i.e. EFL 246mm).

I was shooting a small flock of white pelicans when one broke away, found a fish to eat, and swallowed. The sun hepfully back-lit the event and I fired off a burst of shots. Both the pelican and I were happy with the result!

Question - how could I improve the cropping an post-shoot processing? I have adjusted the overall levels and given the pelican's pouch a small contrast adjustment.

Phil, the fish silhouette is awesome. I think the contrast and whites look very good (although I am seeing from a laptop). Composition-wise I'd want more room on the left and would prefer a lower angle shot.

    Phil,

Greetings. Wow, that is one huge fish in there! Couldn't have seen this without it being backlit. Tone looks good to me (could selectively darken/contrast the water, but that's a matter of taste). Agree with Connie about the comp choices...

    Thanks for posting...

    Cheers,

    -Michael-

Hi Phil, Connie made some good points.
What I find most interesting is the silhouette which I've never quite seen shown that way. The next thing I wonder about is how he got it down:)

Amazing shot, this show how black lit image can be awesome sometimes. The HA really help showing the silhouette of the fish. Agree with Connie about the composition. I might also try to lighten the eye a bit too.

Unique, impressive capture except for the composition points already raised I have nothing to add.
