Had fun with the workshop participants this morning as we all got shots of this special desert species of flycatcher.

You can't beat that head angle, and nicely composed with the beautiful ocotillo. I'm wondering about your high shutter speed and if you intentionly use it for these types of birds. Would an ISO400 and 1/1600 give you similar results?

    Brilliantly done, as usual!
Excellent composition, perch, bg and exposure.
If anything, I'm wondering if you could've traded some of that SS for some additional DOF.

Lovely bird and perch. I like the open bill and raised crest, but I think I'd like the head to be a little more parallel to the camera.

Lovely singng pose. I really like the ocotilla blooms. Didn't get a chance to see this handsome fellow when we were there in April.

It's a great question Connie. Thanks for asking. The D3 is so clean at ISO 800 that there is no need to shoot with lower ISO IMO. The other reason I was at IOS 800 was that the aditional shutter speed was used for action and flight shots as the bird was leaving and landing on the perch, so yes, your techs would render the same result as you see in trhe image, but I would have been handicapped whit a lower shutter speed for when the action started. I could have used more DOF for the plant, but that would have pulled in too much of the BG, so I opted for just enough DOF for the bird. Thanks.
