Work for me, HA seem a bit away but doesn't bother that much, you got both feet and tail visible which is nice, did well with the exposure and the perch looks really good. The background looks good also. I might crop a bit off the right.

The first version looks more natural to me, the colors look very close to the way female Cardinals look to my eye. I like the image, nice perch, great BG, good technique overall, I might experiment with some different crops to get the eye of the bird out of the center.

Hi Joel, Thanks for the comments. Do you have any suggestions on how to get the eye out of the center?

It works OK for me and I prefer the first image as the colours appear to be correct. Also, the eye appears off centre to me.

I prefer slighty more the first. On 2nd the red/orange colors look a bit too saturated, but not bad. But then again, never saw female cardinal up close like this. Certainly an interesting stick.
The crop and eye position looks good to me. Maybe a tiny bit more sharpening?

Hi Dave - the OP looks mighty fine to me - nice work on the repost Peter - a Little too much contrast for my personal tastes - just personal taste though.

    It certainly works for me.

    That perch is something else.

I am curious about a bit darker bg in the opening post.

    Hi Dave

works well for me. Great compostion Very good detail Very appealing perch. I like the repost for the changes to the BG and perch but not the affect on the red portions of the bird the reds look a little too saturated.

I really like the OP. I might go for slightly darker BG, maybe half way to the re-post.
Excellent pose and great perch. Nice fine feather details. The raised crest is a plus.

thanks for the comments on the repost :)

I agree looking back on it, perhaps a few notches lower on the red saturation would improve it, was looking mainly at the perch and chest area when i was doing it. Quite pleased with the results in that area.
