Hi Ricardo, You framed the image very well in the camera with good even lighting. The birds open beak is a plus along with a pleasing backround.
I was wondering if it might be possible to pull more detail out of the whites on the head? In general...well handled!!

Very nice portrait, the pelican has nice texture and details, the open beak and the water drop is a plus too.
Maybe 1/4000s is a little overkill, you can lower ISO a bit I think.

I tried to pull the whites with multiply layer of linear burn.

Hmmm, after a second look, does the image has a blue cast?

Really nice portrait, especially with the open beak. Great detail everwhere, excepted as previously noted, in the whites.

Agree with comments ISO wise can lower to about half and still have a sharp image, I know the camera is as good as anything regarding ISO but there has to be a difference with one less ... I hope :)

One thing I like about Nikon is the blue colors, they seem to come out different !!! Well done !!

HI Ricardo - agree with the above comments - like the use of F11 - plenty of SS And nothing to worry about in the BG.
As mentioned might try to recover the whites.
    Good show :0

Thank you all for the useful comments. I'm sure the whites are not blown, but I agree that in parts of the head they don't have a lot of detail. I'm guilty as charged on the high ISO. The reason for this is that I was shooting mostly BIF and this one (and others I plan to post in the future) stood still for a while so I made the portrait and simply forgot to change the settings. Fortunately the D3S handles noise well. Gotta remember to constantly change the settings to the conditions of the moment!

Thanks, Thanaboon, for your repost. However, I'm very concerned about your comment that the image may have a blue cast. Do others agree? Frankly, I don't see a blue cast in my image, but it may just be that I am unable to detect it. I seem to have a problem detecting color casts, so lately I always apply the white, black, and 50% gray droppers in a Levels layer. Wouldn't that take care of any potential cast?? I will appreciate your advice, as this is a big issue that I would really like to solve.
