Here's one from this past weekend. How disturbing is that branch in the left foreground?
I see a lot of these guys, but they are usually on the ground in boring surrounds. It's unusual for me to find one up in a bush.

Hi Ian, a beautiful bird we don't see in NJ. The exposure seems well handled in harsh light.
I always suggest shooting in warm light which can enhance an image greatly.
In this case my eye seems to be affected more by the rear branches than the dominant foreground branch.
I would take a bit off the top and run some noise reduction in the backround...

Thanks, Dave. We see them all over the place out here. They seem to prefer to run rather than fly and often they will cross the road with a string of chicks running behind them. Here's a tighter crop with some more NR (Noiseware Pro).

Hi Ian - repost is better - not bad for harsh light - good HA and eye contact.
The foreground OOF branch is a little distracting.
Good idea stopping down (F11) when there is nothing in the BG as long as you have the SS to support it.
    Good show :)

Hi Ian Tough situation and you made the best possible from your position !!!

Excellent advice and fully agree !!! btw the one branch that bothers me the most is the one going through his chess area !! Re post looks good, just one bright area without detail !!... check histogram closely !!!... would also tone down the blue bg ... can lighten and lower saturation !!

Love the pose, the HA, and good catch light in the eye. I like what you did with your repost with the NR. The NR looks good on the blue background, but maybe a little less NR on the bird itself.
