    Default Scissor tailed Flycatcher

    Hi everybody,

Just came back from one of the best trips I have ever been on. 5 weeks of Texas together with Jasper Doest (douche for some) who joined the ICF Pro Tour and asked me to come along to be his assitent. We started off meeting Artie in Laredo which was cool, inspiring and a lot of fun! Then we were taken to San Pablito ranch close to Hebbronville where we would be staying for the next month. The first days were driving around getting to know the area which was from our (The Netherlands = a very small country) point of view ENORMOUS (13.000) and the wildlife it had to offer. Most of the time I was helping Jasper thinking about his set-ups, trying to find animals/appropriate habitat that he could photograph or photograph the animals in and discussing the shots he had taken. But every day I tried to squeeze some Krijn alone photography time in, to do what I like best; photograph birds.

This was taken during morning. I was fortunate enough to run into this Scissor tailed Flycatcher using a natural perch instead of the barbed wire ones they seem to like best.

    Hope you like it,

    Krijn

I'm glad to hear that you had a good time and good to see you post again. I like this image a lot, interesting perch, composition, BG and pose. I would only try to get more details in the blacks.

Bobwire is their natural perch. I like the perch, very brush country where everything has thorns or bites or both, but the lower branch on the perch is distracting to me. I went to high school 50 miles north of Hebbronville, they were our biggest rivals. Glad you enjoyed your stay in Texas. The brush country is and will always be very special to me.
