Nice portrait, Denise; I would have given the title "at the dentist". Love the open beak and the tongue stuck out. Maybe a bit more DOF would have been better, but still nice as presented. Did you get an 800mm?

Lorant, Thanks, No I didn't get an 80mm.(maybe some day) I was borrowing one from Artie. I wasn't planning on a head shot or I probably would have stopped down. I was waiting for an action shot when this one presented itself to me. It is a good crop.:)

    Hi Denise

Mighty fine head shot and great use of the big lens !! Dof wise don't think you could have done much bette, even stopping down is shallow at the range/magnification. Love the timing, position and sharpness

All I would do is try obtaining more feather detail in the processing, adjusted the contrast in highlights to bring it out !! Would also crop a little tighter, places the eye in a more favorable position and makes the action larger in frame, but that part is just taste. Big Congrats on this one !!

I agree with most everything that's been said. i like the way Alfred brought out the detail in the whites but I think I would prefer his crop not be quite so tight on the right. I do think taking a little off the top does improve it slightly. Very nice image Denise!!

Denise, excellent detail from the open bill, and just love the show of the tongue too. I like what Al has done to the whites.

Alfred, Thank you very much. I like the extra details you brought out in the whites! I do prefer the original crop, but that is just my personal preference.:)
Dan and Stuart, Thanks for your comments. Much appreciated.

Well, the bird looks square to the world now. Well done. Love that tongue. Good job on the mouth. I like Al's repost as far as the blacks and the whites but prefer the original COMP.

Great image, congrats big time. I love this gull species.
Great plumage detail but the detail and colors of the gape
    puts it over the top.

Nice capture! Like the detail in the head and mouth. The tighter crop does bring more emphasis to the gull.

As a lover of Gulls, that is an outstanding picture. I like the composition in the original but like the colors better in the repost
